Announcing our ‘Night Vision’ Cataract Package

At Coastal Eye Care, many of our patients that are interested in cataract surgery have complaints of difficulty driving at night. Many of those same patients also have astigmatism, which occurs when the cornea – or front window of the eye - is irregularly shaped or more curved in one direction than the other. This causes light images to focus at multiple points. According to the National Institute of Health and the National Eye Institute, astigmatism can be associated with difficulty driving at night.

One of our most popular and successful options is our ‘Night Vision’ package, designed for patients with low-to-moderate amounts of astigmatism. Our Night Vision package is designed for those patients who want to enjoy the best possible vision for night driving by reducing or eliminating their corneal astigmatism. It includes additional testing and measurements, as well as surgical treatment of your astigmatism, if necessary.

This is the best option for the individual who want to improve their overall night vision by decreasing higher order aberrations and low levels of astigmatism that may effect your vision following cataract surgery.  Medicare and most other insurances will pay most of the costs associated with the removal of your cataract and for the intraocular lens (IOL) replacement, but there are additional out-of-pocket expenses incurred with our Night Vision Package.

In addition to your deductible and/or co-insurance, you are responsible for paying the additional cost of the Astigmatism-Reducing surgery as well as any tests performed prior to and following your cataract surgery that are not covered by your insurance and that are necessary in order to obtain the best visual results.

To further enhance your night vision experience, we use the Tecnis Aspheric IOL. These lenses have been shown to enhance night driving and other low light conditions. It is the FIRST and ONLY IOL with claims approved the FDA for: (1) Reduced spherical aberration; (2) Improved functional vision; (3) Improved night driving performance. The great news is that this IOL is covered in your cataract procedure.

By surgically correcting astigmatism along with the added benefit of the Tecnis Aspheric IOL, our Night Vision package allows us to provide higher quality night vision than ever before for our cataract patients.
