ORA Wavetech

For the first time in medical history, cataract surgeons have the on-demand ability to measure outcomes, correct astigmatism and verify lens implant calculations in real time during cataract surgery. Coastal Eye Center is rpoud to have recently introduced Optiwave Refractive Analysis (ORA) as one the most dramatic breakthroughs in intraoperative cataract care in the past two decades.

Having the ability to measure, refine and affirm our outcomes during the actual surgical process allows Dr. Lawarence Piazza to take cataract surgery to an entirely new level. Making real-time surgical course correction with on-demand measurements of the most critical components of cataract care enhances our outcomes and reduces potential post-op complications.

Modern-day cataract surgery is considered to be one of the most successful and common surgical procedures performed today. Each year, nearly two million men and women undergo cataract surgery to restore their vision. With the vast number of people in our area having cataract surgery each year, Coastal Eye Center is extremely proud to introduce this innovative technology to the people of Downeast Maine. When you combine the benefits of ORA with our new cataract lens implant technology, patients today are experiencing a higher quality of post-operative vision than at any other time in history.

The ORA is attached to the surgical microscope for on-demand intraoperative measurements of intraocular lens implant (IOL) calculations, ensure proper IOL placement and determine treatment zones for correcting astigmatism. ORA utilizes intraoperative wavefront aberrometry to enable us to perform custom refractive cataract surgery. Our goal with refractive cataract surgery is to reduce or eliminate a cataract patient’s need for prescription eyewear after surgery.
